4 Shot at Howe Park - Unauthorized Gathering Turns Violent
On the evening of Saturday April 18, a large unauthorized party of a large crowd at the Howe Park area in the Arden-Arcade section of Sacramento erupted in gunfire when 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the area as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were working to removing people from the park.
How It Unfolded
Around 6:30 in the evening, the SCSO received reports regarding subjects possibly armed with concealed weapons at Howe Park. A second caller indicated a reported fight and subjects running away.
Law enforcement air support was utilized and conducted an aerial search but failed to identify any active disturbance.
At the same time, multiple hundreds of people had come together at Howe Community Park for what law enforcement classified as an unlawful gathering. Deputies set up around the park, turned on their emergency lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes ordering the crowd to disperse using public address systems.
As law enforcement was clearing the area, upwards of 20 gunshots were fired — sending the crowd scattering in all directions at once.
The Victims
Four gunshot victims — one woman and three male victims, ranging in age click here through their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two of the victims had serious injuries, one was classified with moderate injuries, and one had minor injuries. Each of the four victims was in stable condition. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to the scene and triaged victims on scene.
The Investigation Scene
The crime scene was located on the Cottage website Way side side of the park adjacent to the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. The Home Depot store was put under a brief lockdown. More shell casings were located on Cottage Way, with bullet impacts found in the here wrought iron fencing bordering the Home Depot — confirming gunfire directed south from along Cottage check here Way toward the store. CSI investigators and detectives combed the scene for evidence throughout the night.
Arrests and Detentions
Via scanner radio traffic, it was reported that a related suspect vehicle — identified as a Kia — was stopped in Solano County with four detainees. Sacramento County Sheriff's units were dispatched to retrieve the detainees and bring them back to Sacramento for questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed two shooters were involved.
